By: E&P Staff Three long-time publishers and a veteran Associated Press regional chief will be inducted into the Missouri Press Association (MPA) Newspaper Hall of Fame in September.
Those to be inducted in the Sept. 15 ceremony during MPA?s 140th annual convention at Lake Ozark are the following:
Weldon "Pete" Steiner, the deceased publisher and editor of The Vandalia Leader.
Paul Stevens, central region vice president of The Associated Press, headquartered in Kansas City.
Thomas Warden, the retired editor and co-publisher of The Gasconade County Republican in Owensville.
Craig Watkins the deceased publisher of the Cameron Citizen Observer.
Pinnacle awards will be presented to the inductees or their families, and plaques noting their accomplishments will be displayed in the MPA building in Columbia and in a student lounge at the Missouri School of Journalism.
This is the 16th class inducted into the Newspaper Hall of Fame, which includes such historic figures as Samuel Clemens, Joseph Pulitzer and Eugene Field.
