Freedom House Expands Press-Freedom Resources On Site

Posted
By: E&P Staff Freedom House, the non-governmental organization that each year releases a Freedom of the Press survey with rankings of 194 countries and territories, said Wednesday that it has expanded the part of its Web site that tracks press freedom around the world.

The resource center features historical date from its press freedom surveys going back to 1980, and includes global and regional pages highlighting the main trends of each year.

Also included are interactive maps showing the state of press freedom for every year since 2002, reports and rankings of press freedoms in every nation, and the annual overview essays summarizing the state of press freedom.

"The information posted on Freedom House's new web pages will equip those who care about press freedom-including reporters who are working tirelessly for a freer media environment in their countries around the world-with information and tools that can increase their effectiveness," Karin Karlekar, managing editor of the Freedom of the Press survey, said in a statement.

The enhancement of the press freedom website was funded by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, and the Annenberg Foundation.
