In today's letters, a reader enjoys E&P's new daily video feature, a Boston Globe writer reacts to Greg Mitchell's column on Thomas Edsall, and a regular writer thinks a reporter's switch to the Huffington Post betrays media bias.***
Edsall and the Politics of Newspaper StaffsIn your recent
piece about Thomas Edsall, you denounce his assertion that Democrats outnumber Republicans in newsrooms by 15 or 25 to 1. Well, I work in such a newsroom and have worked at others. I know from experience that this is a pretty darn accurate estimate. Exaggerated, perhaps, but not by a whole heckuva lot. The fact that there's no survey data to back up the claim seems to me irrelevant. There is such a thing, after all, as simply noticing what's going on around one's desk, and drawing reasonable conclusions.
Put it this way: Based on your own experiences, do you believe that newsrooms are dominated by Republicans or Democrats, or is it about even?

On the Huffington Post's New Political EditorGee, another functionary of the mainstream media drops the screen of 'fairness' and goes to work for an avowedly partisan media outlet. Tell me again how consumers are supposed to trust NEWSWEEK, but should take Fox News with a grain of salt.
