By: E&P Staff Jon Stewart and the crew at Comedy Central's "The Daily Show" have made dozens of faux visits to Iraq in the past four years, courtesy of the old reliable green screen. Finally, a fake news correspondent is actually there, and his first report was aired Monday night.
It was titled, "Operation Silent Thunder."
Rob Riggle, a veteran of recent service in Afghanistan and an addition to the show last year, went out of his way to prove he was actually there, reporting on tape from a C-130 cargo plane (accompanied by the old Doors song, "The End," on his Ipod), a boat in the Persian Gulf, and inside a bunker, among other settings.
With water pressure low, he was seen getting a drink from -- a bidet.
He introduced a female (real) soldier and said it was damn hot. Beyond that, he said he didn't really know what was going on in the, you know, war -- but Stewart promised another report on Tuesday.
Following "The Daily Show," Stephen Colbert on "The Colbert Report" unveiled a life-size statue of himself -- made out of 30,000 Lego bricks.
