Full Page of Comics Returns to Georgia Newspaper

By: E&P Staff The Albany (Ga.) Herald is returning to a full page of comics today.

"Making the change to reduce the number of comic strips we run on a daily basis was an economic decision," said Herald Editor Jim Hendricks. "Making the change to bring them all back is a readership decision."

Because of rising newsprint costs, the newspaper reduced its comics lineup from 22 to 12. A new combined comics and features page debuted this past Monday.

But the paper subsequently received almost 300 requests from readers to return some or all of the dropped strips, according toHendricks.

"When that many readers take the time to call, write, or send an e-mail to tell you that you made a mistake by taking away something they truly want, the right thing to do is to own up to it and fix it," he said.
