By: E&P Staff Fusion Systems International, Portland, Ore., has launched version 2.0 of its Web-based soft-proofing system. Designed for newspaper and publication environments, The Publication Proofing System (PPS) provides customer service reps, sales people and customers with a way to soft proof and approve pages and ads exactly as they will print on the press, according to the company.

New features include advanced controls for automated post-RIP page-pairing and imposition, integration with popular imposition applications, job approval/rejection control, file-flow automation based on standardized publication naming conventions, and workflow automation decoupled from the need for communications to an upfront publication planning system.

Production staff can access PPS via most Web browsers to view where a page or job is in the production process. Rasterized PDF files are created from plate separations to provide a press-accurate page previews. Users can view halftone press-accurate proofs as soon as a page is ripped.
