By: E&P Staff Nearly half (45%) of all American adults expect the U.S. will suffer a terrorist attack in 2006, a new Gallup Poll reports.
In another finding, just 27% of the same sample believe that Osama Bin Laden will be captured this year, although Republicans (45%) are far more hopeful than Democrats (15%).
Expectations of a new terror attack show little difference between Republicans (37%) and Democrats (36%) but shoots up among Independents (62%).
The percentage of those who worry that they, or someone in their family, will become a victim of terrorism has declined somewhat, with 11% very worried and 30% somewhat worried vs. 14% and 33% in the same categories last July.
Worry is partly "related to gender," Gallup reports today, with 49% of women but only 34% of men saying they are worried.
Results are based on interviews with 1,000 adults, conducted Dec. 18-18, 2005.
