Gallup: New Yorkers Say OK for Hillary To Seek White House -- But Half Think She Will Fail

By: E&P Staff Sometimes voters don't like the idea of their U.S. senator aiming for a higher officer. Not so in New York right now. A new Gallup poll finds that just re-elected Hillary Clinton gets the okay from the state's residents to seek the White House, with 76% saying they would not be "upset" if this happened.

Not only that, but "there is no significant call among her constituents for her to step down as senator if she does campaign for president," Gallup reports. Almost 6 in 10 New Yorkers say they are fine with her keeping her Senate seat while she campaigns for president -- while 69% believe she will certainly throw her hat in the ring.

But can she win? That's another question. Only 27% find it "very likely" she will gain the Democrats' nod. And even if she does get the nomination, less than half (48%) feel she would win while 49% say no.

The poll was based on a survey of 840 adults in New York on Nov. 4 and 5.
