Gannett Advertising Revenue Rises 9% in May

By: E&P Staff Gannett Co. Inc. announced today that newspaper advertising revenues for May increased 9%. Classified revenues grew 13.1% with strong gains in help wanted, up 25%, and real estate, up 9.5%. Automotive was down slightly.

National advertising increased 9.3% and local advertising increased 4.9% with the company noting, "the performance of small and medium-sized advertisers in its domestic newspapers outpaced the revenue performance of its largest advertisers."

At Gannett's flagship, USA Today, advertising revenues grew 10.9% due to strength in the entertainment, automotive, telecommunications, packaged goods and advocacy categories. The travel and technology categories are down.
