GANNETT APPOINTS EXECS IN PHOENIX, DES MOINES, RENO

By: Staff reports Appointments Result From Central Acquisition

Gannett Co. Inc. named several executives Tuesday as a result of the
completion of the company's acquisition of Central Newspapers Inc.

Sue Clark-Johnson, previously president and publisher of the Reno
(Nev.) Gazette Journal, was named chairman and CEO of Phoenix Newspapers
Inc., and will continue as senior group president of the Pacific
Newspaper Group. She is succeeded in Reno by John M. Zicich.

Mary Stier was named president and publisher of The Des Moines (Iowa)
Register and senior group president of the Midwest Newspaper Group.

Barbara Henry, who previously held the top positions in Des Moines,
was named president and publisher of The Indianapolis Star. Henry
succeeds Dale Duncan, who was named a general executive in the Newspaper
Division.
