By: Staff reports McCorkindale To Succeed Curley
Gannett Co. Inc. Chairman and CEO John J. Curley is stepping down June 1, to be
succeeded by President and Vice Chairman Douglas H. McCorkindale. The news was
announced at Gannett's annual meeting Tuesday.
Curley will continue as chairman until he retires early next year at age 62.
McCorkindale, 60, will retain his current titles until Curley retires and
McCorkindale becomes chairman, president, and CEO. No successor for McCorkindale
has been named.
Curley became chairman, president, and CEO in 1989. He started at Gannett in 1969
as an editor at its Rochester, N.Y., paper.
McCorkindale joined Gannett in 1971 as general counsel and secretary. In 1979, he
became chief financial officer and member of the Office of Chief Executive. He
became vice chairman and president in 1997.
