By: E&P Staff Charles B. "Chuck" Fruit, a Gannett Co. Inc. board of directors member since February, died Tuesday of a heart attack at the age of 61, the company announced Wednesday.
"Chuck was an extraordinarily kind and gentle man whose calm demeanor and sparkling ideas added a great dimension to our board of directors," Gannett CEO Craig Dubow said in a statement Wednesday. "His marketing expertise was unrivaled and a valuable asset to Gannett. We will miss him greatly."
At the time of his death, Fruit, a member of the Gannett board's nominating and public responsibility committee, was senior advisor in marketing, strategy, and innovation for The Coca-Cola Company, and president of Gardner Williams Consulting LLC.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday at 2 p.m. EDT at H.M. Patterson and Sons, Oglethorpe Hill, 4550 Peachtree Road, N.E., Atlanta.
