Gannett Cuts Hit Louisiana 'Town Talk'

By: Gannett Co., the largest U.S. newspaper publisher, is cutting 14 jobs at The Town Talk of Alexandria.

A story on the paper's Web site Wednesday didn't specify which jobs were eliminated. The newspapaper says affected employees will receive severance packages based on length of employment and that health benefits will continue through the severance period.

Virginia-based Gannett previously announced plans to reduce its companywide work force by about 10 percent. Gannett has four other papers in Louisiana.

The Town Talk cuts were announced in a memo Wednesday by William "Ed" Humphrey, president and publisher of Alexandria Newspapers Inc.
