Gannett Earnings Decline on Lower ad Revenue

McLEAN, Va. - Gannett, the publisher of USA Today and more than 80 other daily newspapers, says its first-quarter net income fell, weighed by special charges and lower ad revenue.

Gannett Co. said Monday that it earned $90.5 million, or 37 cents per share, down 23 percent from $117.2 million, or 49 cents per share, a year earlier.

The company says revenue fell 4 percent to $1.25 billion from $1.3 billion.
