By: E&P Staff Gannett and MediaNews Group announced today an agreement to expand their Texas-New Mexico Newspaper Partnership to include four newspapers in Pennsylvania. The move makes MediaNews the managing partner.

Gannett will contribute the Public Opinion of Chambersburg, Pa., to the partnership. MediaNews will contribute the York Daily Record and York Sunday News, the Lebanon Daily News, and the Evening Sun in Hanover. The York Daily Record and York Sunday News will continue to operate under the terms of a joint operating agreement, which includes the York Dispatch.

Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

"MediaNews Group and Gannett have a track record of working well together," William Dean Singleton, vice chairman and CEO of MediaNews, said in a statement. "We are pleased to take over the day-to-day management of this partnership as it grows and expands into a new geographic area."

The Texas-New Mexico Newspaper Partnership was formed in 2003 when Gannett contributed its El Paso (Texas) Times and MediaNews contributed six New Mexico newspapers: the Alamogordo Daily News, Carlsbad Current-Argus, The Deming Headlight, The Daily Times in Farmington, the Las Cruces Sun-News, and the Silver City Sun-News.

Gannett and MediaNews are partners in two other operations, The Detroit Newspapers Partnership and, along with Stephens Media Group, the California Newspapers Partnership.
