said on Tuesday during the same conference, Gannett expects that cost cutting instituted this year will position its newspapers to see advantages of "any economic improvements at the local level," Dickey said.
However, Gannett indicated that next year the company anticipates costs will be down in the mid-single digits and that headcount will decline in the high-single digits due to "carryover" actions taken this year.
Gannett CEO Craig Dubow said, "Many of the changes we made throughout the year were necessary in this economic environment but they also represent necessary permanent changes. Today, we stand as a stronger and better-positioned company."
