By: E&P Staff Gannett announced yesterday that February's newspaper advertising revenue increased 5.9% when compared to the same period last year.
National advertising revenue rose 2% on a 12.2% decline in ad volume. Local advertising revenue increased 7.3% on a 1.3% rise in ROP ad volume. Gains in the category were made because of growth in the department store, consumer electronics, grocery, health, financial, telecommunications, and home improvement categories.
Classified revenue grew 6.1% on a 0.6% decrease in ROP volume. Recruitment revenue was up 12.4%. Real estate revenue advanced 3.3%. Automotive revenue dropped 3.7%.
At USA Today, advertising revenue grew 9% on a 5.2% increase in paid ads to 362 from 344.
Total daily circulation, including USA Today, slipped 2.7%. Sunday circ declined 3%. Circulation revenue for the company inched up 0.4%.
Revenue for Gannett's broadcasting division was down 3.8% for the month.
