By: Newspaper publisher Gannett Co., owner of USA Today, on Wednesday said it expects to meet analysts' expectations for second-quarter earnings, but said the number could be impacted by business conditions.

Gracia Martore, chief financial officer, said at a conference that Gannett will be in line with the average analyst estimate of $1.31 per share from a poll by Thomson Financial.

She added that depending on business conditions, results could be impacted by 1 cent or 2 cents.

The company said it expects positive second-quarter ad revenue growth at USA Today. Craig Moon, president and publisher of that newspaper, said USA Today reached more than 5.2 million readers in the spring, up 1 percent, while USA Today.com advertising revenue grew nearly 16 percent so far this year. The Web site's May online audience increased more than 10 percent.

Gannett shares rose 17 cents to $54.51 during morning trading on the New York Stock Exchange.
