A digital advertising company owned by Gannett Co. reached a settlement with six states, including New Jersey, of claims that it skirted privacy settings for some Internet users, following an earlier accord with Google Inc. over similar practices.
The company, PointRoll, agreed to pay $750,000 to resolve a probe into whether it unlawfully bypassed settings on Apple Inc.'s Safari browser that were intended to block the placement of "cookies," which can help advertisers to track users' Web surfing, New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman said Thursday.
