Garry Trudeau Writes 'Tanner' TV Sequel

By: E&P Staff "Doonesbury" creator Garry Trudeau and director Robert Altman have teamed up for a sequel to their "Tanner '88" series that aired on HBO 16 years ago.

The Trudeau-written "Tanner on Tanner" is scheduled to premiere on The Sundance Channel tomorrow at 9 p.m. Eastern Time.

"Tanner on Tanner" features Michael Murphy as one-time Congressman Jack Tanner, who ran unsuccessfuly for president in the 1988 series. The new four-part series also stars Cynthia Nixon as Tanner's filmmaker daughter Alex, who's making a documentary about her father. Among those making cameo appearances are Robert Redford, Martin Scorsese, and former New York Gov. Mario Cuomo.

Trudeau's "Doonesbury" comic appears in about 1,400 newspapers via Universal Press Syndicate.
