By: Staff Reports Window Media Becomes Largest Gay Chain
The Washington Blade, one of the nation's oldest gay newspapers, and its 4-year-old sibling, New York Blade News, have been sold to the gay newspaper chain Window Media LLC, publisher of Southern Voice in Atlanta and Houston Voice. The employee shareholders of the Blade papers approved the sale this week.
The first Blade issues under Window Media will appear the first week in April. The Blade papers will continue to report on local and national news of interest to gay readers in their respective markets, the new owners said.
With the acquisition, Window Media becomes the largest gay paper chain with a readership of more than a half-million, said owners William Waybourn, Chris Crain, and Kelly Smink.
Blade Publisher Don Michaels plans to retire from the newspaper business.
