By: E&P Staff In an interview in this Sunday's New York Times Magazine, outgoing Democratic House leader Rep. Richard A. Gephardt says the Republicans run Congress in a "my way or the highway" spirit. He also reveals that he really likes Eminem and has his latest album, but "I don't listen to the lyrics. I just like the music. I like the beat." He recently bought an iPod and it's "the best thing that ever happened to me."
Asked about that famous day in July when the New York Post announced that Sen. John Kerry had picked him (Gephardt, not Eminem) to be his running mate, he jokes that he considered securing enough copies of that issue to "support myself in retirement. I could autograph them and sell them for a little more on eBay, and get $5 rather than $3."
Gephardt also calls for an end to the Electoral College and discloses that he has "the world's largest union jacket collection."
