By: E&P Staff German regional Kieler Nachrichten consolidated its print and online operations in preparation for multi-channel publishing with CCI NewsGate, from CCI Europe. NewsGate also allows the Kiel-based publisher to pursue a strategy that enables page production at its four local bureaus in the Schleswig-Holstein area.
Kieler Nachrichten publishes exclusive news items online first, then updates them continuously -- a difficult task using its existing infrastructure of separate print and online systems.
"We were among the first regional newspapers in Germany to consolidate and centralize our IT infrastructure and introduce a Citrix environment allowing for page production in the local bureaus," IT Manager Wolfgang Moeller said in a statement. "An important factor in the decision to go for NewsGate was the fact that we could maintain this strategy."
Moeller added that NewsGate's built-in ad production module, AdRoom, also figured in the decision, because it allows further consolidation in a common database, with access to pages for both editorial and advertising staff.
