Get Googled On NYTimes.com

By: Wayne Robins The New York Times has you Googled.

It doesn't matter if your name has never appeared in the Times, or if you're never written for the paper. If Google's got anything on you, the Times' search engine will now find you.

Go to http://www.nytimes.com and enter a name or phrase at the top of the page in the "search" box. After a brief pause, up comes the links: First from the Times' archives, if any, then from anywhere else on the Web via Google's search technology.

"We have a lot of business people and academics who do a lot of research on our site, so we wanted to give them not just our archives or article links from The New York Times, but also enhanced search capabilities," said Christine Mohan, a spokeswoman for New York Times Digital (NYTD). "And Google has some of the best search tools on the market right now."

Mohan would not disclose specifics of the deal, but said: "Google's Sponsored Links program will provide a different type of revenue opportunity for NYTD that, along with branding vehicles like banner ads and Surround Sessions, further diversifies our marketing mix. NYTimes.com also sells keyword-based ads by running select keywords through our contextual commerce engine, then serving up related advertising and e-commerce products."

A similar deal with Boston.com, another New York Times Digital site, will launch in the fall.
