By: E&P Staff Getty Images today announced the addition to its Web site of more than 100,000 images from the Popperfoto and Bob Thomas Sports Photography (BTSP) collections.
This content will be licensed alongside Getty Images' Hulton Archive, which contains more than 60 million images.
The Popperfoto collection, founded by Czech photojournalist Paul Popper in 1934, includes shots of everything from Captain Scott's 1910-1912 Antarctic expedition to actress Audrey Hepburn. Popperfoto images sell to a variety of customers, including newspapers.
BTSP is particularly noted for its global football, golf, tennis, and athletics content -- including images of runner Roger Bannister breaking the four-minute mile in 1954. Olympic and World Cup photos are an important part of the collection.
