By: E&P Staff The five-day Gilroy (Calif.) Dispatch has pulled the plug on some of its editions. Starting today, the Dispatch, which normally publishes Tuesday through Saturday, will drop to a two-day pub schedule, Tuesday and Friday.
In a note to readers, Publisher Steve Staloch explained the move writing that the paper reaped about 80% of its advertising on Tuesdays and Fridays; single-copy sales tended to be strongest on those days as well.
"The newspaper industry is in transition as readers and advertisers commit more time and money to alternative methods of getting their news and communicating their message," Staloch wrote.
To compensate for the lower frequency, The Dispatch, owned by the Gilroy-based Mainstreet Media Group, ramped up and unveiled a redesign of its Web site today.
Current subscribers who have paid in advance will have the remaining term of their subscription extended based on new rates, according to the note.
