By: E&P Staff Brian Duffy, it would seem, is taking the high road.
Rob Tornoe at
Politicker.com reports today that Duffy, the former editorial cartoonist at the Des Moines Register who was escorted out along with 40 other employees as part of parent company Gannett Co.?s nationwide layoffs, was given the opportunity to fire back at his former bosses.
After hearing that Duffy was losing his staff cartooning job of more than 25 years, Shane Goodman, publisher of Citiview, a central Iowa weekly newspaper, got in touch with Duffy and offered him a full page to publish whatever he wanted.
Duffy took him up on it -- and his full-page cartoon appears in this week's edition of Cityview. In it, the cartoonist depicts himself walking away from a decrepit Register newsrack, art supplies in hand, saying, ?Sunset? No, a new sunrise.?
