By: E&P Staff Canadian newspaper The Globe and Mail will merge its print and online operations to create a single multimedia newsroom that will run on CCI?s NewsGate data center with online publishing. Implementation of the 285-seat system?s digital publishing engine began at the beginning of September.

The newsroom will integrate the operations of The Globe and Mail, Report on Business magazine, as well as both publications? websites, and allow the media properties to do develop, share and publish online using CCI?s online publishing module, which uses technology licensed from web applications developer Escenic.

News staff will use the NewsGate Story Folder to assign, create, share and manage stories and related content. Folders and their contents stay in NewsGate until they reach their expiration dates. The Story Folder is then transferred to the NewsGate long-term archiving area, from where all ?stored? material can be searched and reused, according to CCI.

?The Globe and Mail shares our vision and focus on the multimedia newsroom,? said Dan Korsgaard, CEO of CCI. ?The need for solutions that allow customers to develop and manage multimedia products is growing, and we feel our NewsGate solution can accommodate current and future digital demands and provide the efficiency necessary for newsrooms to continue developing their offerings according to their marketplaces.?
