By: Dave Astor Sid Goldberg is retiring as head of United Media's United Feature Syndicate and Newspaper Enterprise Association effective Jan. 31. Lisa Klem Wilson will succeed him as UM general manager while continuing as vice president for sales and marketing.
Goldberg, 70, who is senior vice president and general manager, will still serve as a UM consultant. He'll also join his wife Lucianne's literary agency to represent authors to publishers.
The executive joined United in 1972 when it bought Bell McClure Syndicate and North American Newspaper Alliance, where Goldberg was president.
Wilson has been UM's sales manager since 1989. She previously worked for Universal Press Syndicate.

The Village Voice in New York, among other outlets.
Rall, 38, who is also a columnist as well as a contributor to the new "9-11: Emergency Relief" graphic novel, has been writing about Afghanistan and Central Asia since 1997.

Ousted Columnist Had Founded ItWhen a cost-cutting
Chicago Sun-Times fired advice columnist Jeff Zaslow this spring, it looked like the end of his 13-year-old program that brought Christmas gifts to impoverished children.
But many of Zaslow's former readers, Spanish-language radio station WLEY, and
Chicago magazine are helping to continue the program.
"Former readers are playing Santa this Christmas to more than 17,000 needy kids," said Zaslow, once syndicated by United Media. "It's not the 47,000 kids we had in the program last year, but it's great that readers rallied like that."
One person involved in the process is Zaslow's former assistant, Elizabeth Rodriguez, now marketing and promotions manager for WLEY.

Dave Graue Did 'Alley Oop' ComicDave Graue, 75, who worked on Newspaper Enterprise Association's "Alley Oop" comic from 1950 until he retired this year, died Dec. 10 in North Carolina when his car was hit by a truck.
The V.T. Hamlin-created comic is now done by Jack and Carole Bender.
