Google's Associated Press Licensing Deal Short on Results

By: E&P Staff A year after a licensing deal was signed between Google and the Associated Press, no new products and features have been delivered.

A year ago, when the deal was signed, Google was defending itself from a lawsuit from Agence France Press which alleged that inclusion of its content in Google News amounted to copyright infringement.

Google argues that Google News is protected by the fair use principle, because it only displays headlines, text snippets, and thumbnail images. This gives it the right to crawl news sites for stories and photos.
