By: Charles Geraci Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich believes that The New York Times "has become unbelievably partisan in its news coverage."
Gingrich, a leading Republican, noted that ex-President George H. W. Bush has decided not to read The Times any more, but the problem is wider than that, he indicated, speaking to an E & P reporter on his way to a limousine today on West 33rd Street near Madison Square Garden in New York.
He cited a recent informal survey by a New York Times staffer who found that a sample of Washington, D.C.-based journalists favored Kerry over Bush by 12-1. (This raises the question, however, that if the Times is so partisan, why they did publish the results of this survey?)
He was further outraged with USA Today, telling E&P, "They spike Ann Coulter's column and bring in Michael Moore instead. I don't mind them bringing in Michael Moore if they bring in Ann Coulter." USA Today claims it did not kill Ann Coulter's column at the Democratic Convention, saying she failed to make requested revisions.
But Gingrich was not all serious. As he headed for his limo, he walked past a security check, with his credentials still around his neck. The cop, apparently not recognizing him, asked, "Are you a delegate?"
Gingrich jokingly responded, "Well, I really don't know what I am."
