By: Todd Shields Dispute Escalates Over Regulations' Cost
Republican-led efforts to turn back new workplace-safety regulations could take
a significant step forward as early as this week.
U.S. Sen. Mike Enzi, R-Wyo., has been shopping a measure to void ergonomics
standards issued late last year by the lame-duck administration.
Labor unions and their legislative allies say they've been working hard to block
Enzi, who wants to invoke a never-used device that lets Congress void
regulations - and do so on a fast track that allows little debate. Business
groups say the ergonomics rules are too costly; labor leaders say the rules are
needed to prevent common injuries.
