By: Jim Rosenberg Since announcing it had completed its acquisition of Heidelberg Web Systems from Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG earlier this month (E&P Online, Aug. 8), Goss International Corp. has said that it "will develop ... restructuring plans over time," but has no specifics to disclose now.
Goss Marketing Director David Stamp wrote in an e-mail that the company "does intend to compete in the post-press business," now that it possesses Heidelberg's U.S. manufacturing assets for post-press systems. Concerning the Mainstream press -- the gapless 1-by-4 design developed by Heidelberg -- Stamp wrote that "we are committed to the Goss Mainstream press system and believe in the technology."
When completion of the deal with Heidelberger was announced, Goss CEO Robert A. Brown called the acquired web printing and finishing equipment lines "a terrific complement to the existing Goss product range." Brown, the former president of Heidelberg Web Systems, is slated to discuss the acquisition on Sept. 23 at the International Newspaper Group's 2004 meeting in Milwaukee.
