By: E&P Staff Yemen's government-owned 14th October Foundation for Journalism, Printing and Publishing has ordered a Goss Community SSC press from Goss International to meet demand for increased color and circulation. Joining another Community, the singlewide press will print the government daily newspaper, 14th October.
The Foundation prints approximately 35% newspapers, 25% magazines and 40% commercial material and books. "Although we print a variety of different products at our facility we think that the newspaper side of the business currently has the most potential for growth," Foundation Project Manager Ahmed Moataz said in a statement. The plant is located in Aden City, in the south, where just two companies provide web-fed printing. "Once the new Goss press is installed," said Moataz, "we'll have the capability to print approximately 60%" of the city's newspapers.
The sale was secured with local support from Al-Kamel Establishment. The press will be configured as two four-high and two two-high towers, with six reelstands and a Goss N40 folder to provide flexibility for future expansion. The publisher will be able to print 24 broadsheet pages, eight of them in full color.
