By: E&P Staff Goss International, Bolingbrook, Ill., will complete a digital inking upgrade on 104 printing couples on Goss Metro and Headliner presses at the San Jose (Calif.) Mercury News. The Mercury News is completing the project as part of a $6 million investment to improve quality, reduce waste, and remove obsolete equipment at the site.
"By accurately controlling ink levels, no more than the required volume of ink is used," Operations Director Joe Boessenecker said in a statement, adding that "with improved quality for pages and color, there is every possibility of boosting profitability by attracting additional advertising and commercial work."
Installation started in April at the plant, which prints the Mercury News and 11 contract jobs. Work is scheduled to be complete this summer.
