Goss International has launched a program to extend the service life of paper presses through enhanced reelstand performance. The RTP Upgrade program for doublewide CT45/50 reelstands is a package of hardware and software enhancements designed to improve efficiency and productivity.
The package solves issues associated with older reelstand technology, including reduced control of web tension, complex maintenance and aging components that may be difficult to replace. New features include integrated controls, supported by the latest digital drives, encoders, valves and sensors. Together, these components provide finer control and improved repeatability via a user-friendly interface.
"Problems associated with maintaining and replacing older systems can have a significant effect on productivity," Goss International Commercial Director David Muncaster said in a statement. The upgrade, he added, resolves all problems associated with older components through replacement with industry-standard components, while providing "enhanced control and vastly improved maintenance and diagnostic functions."
Benefits package are simpler operation, minimized press downtime, and reduced maintenance time and costs, according to Goss. Operability is simplified and made more efficient through design elements that include reliable off-the-shelf hardware, _an enhanced operator interface, component controls integrated through the main PLC, _a rolling diagnostic log at local and central control levels, a better pressure-control system delivering finer adjustment and improved repeatability, and core-brake control at a main controls desk, allowing real-time adjustment and monitoring.
Downtime is reduced with improved diagnostics and hardware reliability, as well as automatic calculation of new reel gap based on diameter rather than position sensors. For more affordable maintenance, the upgrade provides longer-life components and features that allowing easier fault identification.
The Goss RTP Upgrade program also offers a range of options, including remote diagnostic support, replacement drive motors, automatic edge alignment, and mechanical refurbishing tailored to individual reelstands' generation and condition.
