By: E&P Staff Norra Vasterbotten Tidnings AB has ordered an eight-tower Goss Magnum 4 for a plant under construction in the outskirts of Skelleftea, in northern Sweden. The press is scheduled to be in production next September.
The Magnum's 560 mm cut-off will take Norra Vasterbotten's namesake flagship from Berliner to tabloid format.
Emphasizing local news, Norra Vasterbotten circulates approximately 30,000 copies by subscription, reaching 75% of households. With unmet growth in demand for color ads, the singlewide Goss Magnum 4 will double full-color capacity to 64 pages in one pass, at speeds up to 40,000 copies per hour.
The press comprises eight four-high towers, an N40 folder with quarterfold balloon former, and eight reelstands. Footprint shaftless throughout, the press will have Goss Omnicon Level 3 controls with remote control of ink keys and presetting of auxiliaries.
Press specification mirrors that of Norway's Agderposten Trykk AS, which installed Europe's first Magnum 4 earlier this year. Demonstrations at Agderposten aided decision-making for Norra Vasterbotten.
