By: E&P Staff Goss International has announced the sale of two Newsliner presses in Japan and a variable-web-width Uniliner press in Argentina.
The 90,000 copy-per-hour Newsliners were bought by Hino Offset Print Co., contract printer for national dailies Asahi Shimbun and Nikkan Sport. Scheduled for installation at the end of the year, the presses will be manufactured in Goss' plant in Japan.
Each press will be configured as two four-high and three two-high towers, with one folder and five reelstands, and will be capable of producing up to 40 pages, including 16 in full color. All towers except a spot-color unit will be equipped with the manufacturer's DigiRail digital inking technology.
In Argentina, Goss sold a double-width Uniliner press to Artes Graficas del Litoral, a joint venture of Clarin, Argentina's largest newspaper publisher, and El Litoral, of Santa Fe. The companies are constructing a satellite plant in Santa Fe, about 300 miles north of Buenos Aires. The press is due to be shipped late this year.
To be manufactured in France, the Uniliner will consist of 12 units, a jaw folder and three pasters, and will be equipped to handle automatic web-width changes with movable formers. The changeable web width will allow the press to print numerous publications, including the 60-inch national daily Clarin, the 50-inch regional El Litoral, and contract print jobs, according to Goss.
Artes Graficas del Litoral plans, in a second phase, to add a Goss Ecocool dryer to the press line for heatset printing capability.
Diario Clarin currently prints with Goss presses -- six Metrocolors, a Sunday 3000, two M-1000s and two M-850s.
