By: E&P Staff Turkey's largest newspaper publisher, Hurriyet Gazetecilik ve Matbaacilik A.S. -- part of the Dogan Yayin Holding Group -- has contracted with Goss International to upgrade two Goss HT70 presses at its Dogan Printing Center in Istanbul, Turkey's largest printing center.
Dogan Printing Center (DPC) operates three HT70s. The upgrade will transfer two four-high towers and one two-high tower from press 1 into presses 2 and 3 to enhance productivity and extend the presses' life.
"We are now at a stage with our daily titles where we need to increase color capacity to fulfill the requirement for editorial and advertising content," a Kogan Yayin Holdings spokesperson said in a statement. The reconfiguration proved to be "the most logical and cost-effective solution," he added.
DPC prints 10 dailies at its Istanbul plant, including Hurriyet, Milliyet, Posta, Radikal, Referans and Fanatik, with a combined circulation of 2,250,000.
As part of the upgrade, Goss will supply new equipment, including four unit-mounted turner bars, shaftless upgrades to existing lower formers and outfeed and web tension systems to complement those now in operation. Adjustments will be made to improve color registration on the existing equipment.
Upon completion, each press will consist of five four-high towers with six reelstands and the ability to produce up to 48 broadsheet pages, with 40 in full color.
