H. Howard Flint II Dies at 66

By: E&P Staff Flint Ink Corp. Chairman H. Howard Flint II died Tuesday night. He was 66.

The grandson and namesake of the company's founder died from complications of cancer, which had been diagnosed only three weeks earlier. He is survived by, among others, his brother and Flint Ink Executive Vice President David B. Flint.

H. Howard Flint II joined the family company more than 30 years ago. He was named chief operating officer in 1988 and chief executive four years later. He retired as CEO in January. Flint was active in industry associations as well as state and local educational and cultural organizations.

With almost $1.5 billion in 2004 sales, Flint Ink is the second-largest ink supplier and the largest privately owned ink company. Under H. Howard Flint II, the business more than tripled in size, relocated from Detroit to Ann Arbor, acquired other companies in a global expansion that included manufacturing in China, formed several subsidiaries, and moved into ink-jet inks, printable antennas and electronic circuits, and media workflow color-management.
