By: Mark Fitzgerald Dallas-based American Consolidated Media (ACM) announced today it has purchased the publishing assets of The Nueces County Record Star, a well-regarded weekly with a place in south Texas history.
The sale is "noteworthy in view of its distinguished past, reputation and role in the history of South Texas," Halbreich told E&P.
ACM purchased the paper from owners and publishers Sam Fore Keach, Vicki J. Keach, and W. Darrell Keach.
Based in Robstown, the Record Star serves communities in Northwest Corpus Christi.
With the sale, Sam Fore Keach is retiring as the paper's publisher and editor. Vicki J. Keach will continue her duties in the news and editorial operation of the newspaper, and Darrell Keach will remain general manager on an interim basis.
No other personnel changes or staff reductions are planned, ACM said.
"American Consolidated Media is deeply flattered to have this opportunity to purchase The Record Star," Halbreich said in a statement. "The Record Star is one of the most prestigious weekly newspaper titles in the State of Texas and Sam Keach, Vicki Keach, and Darrell Keach represent one of Texas' legendary, most highly-respected weekly newspaper publishing families," he added.
The paper can trace its roots to 1919 with the creation of the Robstown Record. In 1989, The Robstown Record and The Western Star were combined into a single publication renamed The Nueces County Record Star. ACM noted that 2006 marks the 80th anniversary of the Keach-Fore ownership of the newspaper.
ACM, directly and through its affiliates, owns and operates daily newspapers in Texas in Alice, Brownwood, Stephenville, and Waxahachie, plus a Miami, Okla., daily. It publishes weeklies in 26 Texas markets and one Oklahoma community.
