Half-Century Of Syndication For 'Hi & Lois'

By: Dave Astor "Hi & Lois" turned 50 today.

The King Features Syndicate comic starring a suburban family was begun by Mort Walker ("Beetle Bailey") and Dik Browne ("Hagar the Horrible") on Oct. 18, 1954. Three decades later, the strip was taken over by three sons of the original team -- Brian Walker, Greg Walker, and Chance Browne.

These current creators did an anniversary comic that ran in newspapers yesterday. It included a scene from the early "Hi & Lois," a panel showing how the strip has changed over the years, and a thank you to readers. Also pictured were cartoon versions of Mort, Dik, Brian, Greg, and Chance.

Lois, as some avid comics readers know, is the sister of Beetle Bailey.
