By: E&P Staff Wesley Hallman has been named sports editor of the weekly Shelby County (Ala.) Reporter. His appointment was announced to Reporter staff members Aug. 5.

Hallman, 26, holds a bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of Alabama. He was hired by the Birmingham News as a part-time reporter covering high school sports in Shelby County. In 2008, he moved to the Hoover City Schools sports beat. He currently resides in Hoover.

We are excited to have the opportunity to work with someone of Wesley's caliber," Reporter President and Publisher Tim Prince told the paper. "Wesley knows many of the coaches and players in Shelby County and is comfortable with the great importance their fans and families place on solid coverage of our local teams."

Hallman replaces Chris Megginson, who has been named the sports information director at Campbellsville University in Campbellsville, Ky., effective at the end of August.

"The bar has been set high here," Hallman told the Reporter. "I just hope to be able to keep (the section) where it is and, hopefully, improve it in the future."
