By: Fred Hamilton has been named publisher and chief executive of the San Bernardino Sun, replacing Bob Balzer, who left the paper to head the capital campaign for the California State Polytechnic University in Pomona.

Hamilton will also manage the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin and the Redlands Daily Facts. All three papers are owned by the Los Angeles Newspaper Group, a division of Denver-based MediaNews Group Inc.

Hamilton's appointment was effective as of Monday.

Hamilton was most recently president and publisher of the Reno Gazette-Journal. He also has served as president and publisher of the Salinas Californian and director of marketing at The Desert Sun in Palm Springs.

"Our company will benefit greatly from his insights, management skills, development of people, personal style, leadership and strategic thinking," said Edward Moss, president and CEO of the Los Angeles Newspaper Group.
