By: E&P Staff Daily Press Inc. in Hampton Roads, Va. will join forces with local CBS affiliate WTKR-TV starting April 1 in a media partnership.

The two news outlets will combine resources and share content across every platform including video and pictures. A hurricane guide, and other joint products are also in the works.

The newspaper and television station will also develop joint Web sites to cover local sports, entertainment, and news programming, including a page for WTKR weather that will also appear in print. The deal also allows for cross-promotion and marketing between the paper and news channel.

The Daily Press previously had a partnership with the local NBC affiliate for the part decade, "But it was becoming clear that their Internet and sales needs were diverging from those of the Daily Press," said Digby A. Solomon, publisher of the Daily Press in a statement, "and we made a decision to move in a new direction."

How Dublin Inquirer uses legal risk assessments to keep accountability journalism moving

When Dublin Inquirer publishes a sensitive accountability story, the challenge isn’t just reporting the facts. It’s deciding whether a small, seven-person newsroom can afford the legal risks that sometimes come with telling the public what it needs to know. For editor and co-founder Sam Tranum and deputy editor Lois Kapila, those decisions once came down to late-night conversations and educated guesswork. Today, the independent Dublin newsroom relies on Reporters Shield’s Legal Risk Assessment service to help identify potential legal vulnerabilities before publication—allowing journalists to move forward with greater confidence while keeping important stories alive.
