Hanna Is New Athens 'Banner-Herald' Exec Ed

By: E&P Staff Melissa Hanna has been named executive editor of the Athens (Ga.) Banner-Herald. Her appointment was officially announced today.

Hanna has been at the Banner-Herald since 2004, when she was hired as a copy editor. Prior to going to Athens, she was news editor at the Aiken (S.C.) Standard. She replaces Jason Winders as executive editor, who stepped down Aug. 3

In 2006, she took over the news director job. According to the Banner-Herald, in her time as news editor, the number page views on the paper's Web site, onlineathens.com, has nearly doubled, going from 2.8 million page views/month to 5 million page views/month last year.

"She has great core experience and understands the needs of current print subscribers, but she also has a great vision for the future and what online viewers need and want," Banner-Herald Publisher Scott Morrissey told the paper. "She has a great ability to balance the need of both audiences and to help grow both."
