'Hartford (Conn.) Courant' Appoints New Editor /VP

By: E&P Staff Clifford L. Teutsch has been named editor and vice president of The Hartford (Conn.) Courant.

Teutsch, a 26-year veteran of the Courant, has served as managing editor since 1994. He joined the newspaper in 1980 as a local news reporter, and went on to cover state government and did some investigative reporting. Prior to joining the Courant, he worked for the Daily Hampshire Gazette in Northampton, Mass.

After completing a Knight Journalism Fellowship at Stanford University in 1987, Teutsch returned to the Courant as politics editor. He was named assistant managing editor/nights in 1991.

"I'm honored, thrilled, and humbled to be selected to lead this News staff, with journalists who are remarkably talented and committed," Teutsch said in a statement.

He succeeds Brian Toolan, who left the newspaper in July 14 to become The Associated Press' national editor.
