'Hartford Courant' Accepts Hemlock Society Ads

By: Dave Astor The Harford (Conn.) Courant has decided to accept ads from the Hemlock Society (HS) after all.

"We had more time to fully evaluate the content of the ads and the nature of the events and consider the organization in its entirety," said Mark Aldam, senior vice president and general manager of the Courant.

Initially, the paper turned down two ads announcing Oct. 11 and Oct. 19 Connecticut appearances by a speaker for HS, which promotes more access to end-of-life choices. HS Communications Director Ryan Ross said the organization feels it's too late to run the ad for the Oct. 11 talk, but may run the ad for the Oct. 19 appearance.
