By: E&P Staff Mark E. Aldam has been named publisher of the Times Union in Albany, N.Y., effective March 1. Aldam, 42, most recently was senior vice president and chief operating officer of The Hartford (Ct.) Courant.
David P. White, who most recently served as the Times Union's vice president and publisher, will take on the role of chairman of the newspaper until his retirement at the end of this year.
The announcement was made jointly by Victor F. Ganzi, president and CEO of the Hearst Corp., and George B. Irish, president of Hearst Newspapers.
"Mark is a highly respected newspaper executive and brings to the Times Union extensive newspaper leadership experience," Irish said in a statement.
Aldam joined the Courant in 1994 as advertising director and was named senior vice president/chief operating officer in 2005. Before that, he spent almost four years as the newspaper's senior vice president and general manager.
During his career at the Courant, Aldam also held positions overseeing sales, marketing, and advertising. Prior to that, he served as chief financial officer and assistant treasurer of Eagle Publishing Company in Pittsfield, Mass.
