By: HBO Films is planning to turn a best-selling book about Barry Bonds?s alleged steroid use and the federal government?s investigation into the use of performance-enhancing drugs in sports into a film, one of the book?s authors said yesterday.

Lance Williams, a reporter for The San Francisco Chronicle, said that Ron Shelton would direct the film and will co-write the script with John Norville.

The planned film, based on the book ?Game of Shadows,? was first reported Wednesday by Variety. Williams co-wrote the book with the sports writer Mark Fainaru-Wada. Much of the book was based on secret grand jury testimony by Bonds and other athletes leaked to Williams and Fainaru-Wada by Troy Ellerman, a lawyer sentenced to two and a half years in prison for denying under oath he was the reporters? source

How Dublin Inquirer uses legal risk assessments to keep accountability journalism moving

When Dublin Inquirer publishes a sensitive accountability story, the challenge isn’t just reporting the facts. It’s deciding whether a small, seven-person newsroom can afford the legal risks that sometimes come with telling the public what it needs to know. For editor and co-founder Sam Tranum and deputy editor Lois Kapila, those decisions once came down to late-night conversations and educated guesswork. Today, the independent Dublin newsroom relies on Reporters Shield’s Legal Risk Assessment service to help identify potential legal vulnerabilities before publication—allowing journalists to move forward with greater confidence while keeping important stories alive.
